The Greenwich Independence Day Association will again be organizing the annual American Flag Raising at Greenwich Town Hall Plaza on the morning of Thursday, July 4th.
Festivities will kick off at 9:00am.
Everyone in Greenwich is invited to join in the celebration.
Members of the Sound Beach Community Band will perform live music along with the Assembly trumpet call, followed by ceremonial rifle fire by the Greenwich Police Department Honor Guard, introduction of dignitaries and a message from the Town of Greenwich by First Selectman Fred Camillo.
Greenwich Scouts will present the 13 Colonial flags, Arch Street Teens will recite I Am the Flag, followed by a flag raising by members of Greenwich Boys & Girls Club.
Good citizenship awards will be presented to High School students selected by their various schools. Award recipients include James Flinn of Greenwich High School; Francesca Lovero of Greenwich Country Day; Caitlin Costello of Sacred Heart; Gunner Gregory of Brunswick School and Melina Saleme of Greenwich Academy.
Descendants of Greenwich Settlers will be recognized and their descendants asked to stand, as will descendants of Revolutionary War Patriots and Fallen Patriots of Greenwich. The names of citizens of the Town of Greenwich who lost their lives during the Revolutionary War will be read, followed by a Moment of Silence, 21-Gun Salute and Echo Taps.
Following the ceremony everyone is invited inside Town Hall for refreshments and America’s birthday cake.

The Sound Beach Community Band will also perform on July 6, 2024, at 8:00 pm in Binney Park prior to the Town of Greenwich fireworks show.
The Sound Beach Community Band is a private, non-profit organization. It was established in 1955 and is under the musical direction of Zachary Kampler. Membership in the band is open to musicians ranging from talented, middle-school level (by audition) up through active or retired professional musicians.
In addition to the Independence Day events, the band's upcoming performances include:
• St. Catherine’s Carnival of Fun on July 10.
• Concert at Binney Park on July 28th (Beatles music).
• Concert at Binney Park on August 25th (Videogame music).
