The Town continues its full mobilization throughout the weekend in its response to Tropical Storm Isaias. As of Saturday afternoon, numerous Eversource contractors and Town of Greenwich crews have made good progress in removing trees and downed wires. As of 5:45pm there remains 22.20% of Greenwich residents without power.
All High Priority roadways have been cleared.
Bottled Water and Meals Ready to Eat (MRE)
The Town of Greenwich is distributing bottles of drinking water and ‘meals, ready to eat’ at two distribution sites for Greenwich residents. The American Red Cross Metro New York Chapter and the Town of Greenwich, Community Emergency Response Team (C.E.R.T) will be coordinating the distribution.
The distribution will continue Sunday, August 9, 2020 from 2:00pm to 6:00pm. Distribution Sites:
- Round Hill Fire House at 166 Old Mill Road, Greenwich
- Banksville Fire House at 33 Bedford-Banksville Road, Banksville, NY
Blocked or Obstructed Roads
As of 4:00pm on Saturday there were 34 Completely Blocked roadways, 66 Partial Openings, which are roads where a tree or wire is blocking one travel lane, but traffic is passable around the block, and 15 roads open with Debris. That means the roadway is open, but there is a large number of tree debris, trees on the wire, and/or wires along the shoulder.

A road opening is a fluid process. There may be a road cleared off the map and open but subsequently be closed later for a time to reset utility poles or to allow for additional cleanup. Note- the clearing of the reported closures is happening faster then the map can be updated.

The Town of Greenwich Tree-Eversource-GPD task force is addressing the remaining complete closures. Eversource contractors continue to work on the priorities set by Eversource. Please contact Eversource for outage information.
Many wires are still hidden under branches and other debris. All wires should be treated as live. Keep away from any wire on the ground. Electrocution can occur with a downed power line, or with the earth near a downed power line.
Carbon Monoxide
The Fire Department has been responding to numerous carbon monoxide alarms, many caused by portable generators. If the concentration of carbon monoxide is above 35 ppm, it can be toxic. Early symptoms are Headache, Nausea, Dizziness, and Fatigue. Most causes during outages are from portable generators. Place generators outside 20’ from any structure. Shut windows that are on that side of the home. If you experience any of these symptoms, call 911.
Welfare Checks
The Greenwich Police Department has been performing welfare checks at various locations throughout the Town. If you need the Greenwich Police Department to check on an elderly or vulnerable person who resides in Greenwich, please call 203-622-8004. Please continue to check on your elderly relatives and neighbors to be sure they are doing well during this outage.
